HC Deb 14 May 1984 vol 60 cc13-4W
Sir David Price

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if, in view of the continued criticism of the £1 coin, he will revise his plans to phase out £1 notes.

Mr. Ian Stewart

[pursuant to his reply, 10 May 1984, c. 438]: The signs are of increasing public use and acceptance of the £1 coin. In particular, it is beginning to show its potentials as a coin for ticket selling and other machine vending. The note and coin are to circulate together at least for the time being and there are no immediate plans to phase out the £1 note.
