HC Deb 14 May 1984 vol 60 c28W
Mr. Soames

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what new projects are under consideration by the Falkland Islands Development Corporation.

Mr. Raison

I understand that the Chief Executive of the Falkland Islands Government is considering possible projects in the agricultural, export and small scale industry sectors which might qualify for assistance from the Development Corporation when it becomes operational.

Mr. Soames

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the present progress of the Falkland Islands Development Corporation.

Mr. Raison

Legislation establishing the corporation has been passed and a general manager is being appointed to the corporation. He is expected to take up his post some time in July. Draft operating procedures were prepared by the Chief Executive, in consultation with the Overseas Development Administration, during his visit to the United Kingdom last month. The draft is now being considered by the Falkland Islands Government and will be submitted in its final form to the ODA for approval.
