HC Deb 14 May 1984 vol 60 c1W
Mr. Body

asked the Prime Minister whether she will make a statement about the policy of Her Majesty's Government towards the proposals approved by the European Assembly for the European Treaty of Union, and in particular the proposal that the presidency should become one of the institutions of the Community.

The Prime Minister

We are not convinced of the need for a new treaty since the existing treaties provide plenty of scope for the further development of the Community. The draft treaty does not refer to the Presidency becoming one of the institutions of the Community.
