HC Deb 14 May 1984 vol 60 cc82-4W
Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how much his Department has spent on advertising in national and local newspapers, on television and in other printed journals in each of the past five years; and what is budgeted in the current financial year for such advertising.

Mr. John Patten

[pursuant to his reply, 8 May 1984, c. 370]: The amounts spent by the Department of Health and Social Security on press and television advertising for each of the past five years, and the amount budgeted for the current financial year, are shown in the table. It is not possible without undue expense to provide the more detailed analysis requested for press expenditure, although typically more than half would be spent in national newspapers and most of the balance in national magazines.
