HC Deb 10 May 1984 vol 59 cc419-20W
Mr. Andrew F. Bennett

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he is satisfied with the speed of removal of elm trees by Stockport metropolitan borough which are affected by Dutch elm disease; and how the rate of removal is affecting the spread of the disease to the elm trees which remain unaffected in the north of England.

Mrs. Fenner

The rate at which the metropolitan borough of Stockport has been felling diseased elm has been broadly keeping pace with the spread of disease there. The rate of removal of such trees in the borough is unlikely to have any discernable effect on the further spread of the disease in the north of England.
