HC Deb 10 May 1984 vol 59 c451W
Mr. Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the income received from dog licences in Scotland in 1982–83; what was the cost of collection in that year; how many licences were issued; and if he will raise the cost of the licence to a level which will cover the administrative costs of collection.

Mr. Ancram

The income received from dog licences in Scotland in 1982–83 was £68,665, and the cost of collection was £246,165. 177,833 licences were issued.

The Government are considering a report on the financial aspects of dog licensing by the Committee of Public Accounts. Although the Committee's inquiry did not extend to Scotland, the Government's consideration will include the future of dog licensing in Scotland. The conclusions will be announced as soon as possible.
