HC Deb 09 May 1984 vol 59 c401W
Mr.Best

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the number of one-parent families receiving supplementary benefit, where the parent is (a) on a training opportunities course and (b) on a youth training scheme course.

Dr.Boyson

I regret that this information is not available.

Mr.Best

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many supplementary benefit recipients are (a) on a training opportunities course and (b) on a youth training scheme course.

Dr.Boyson

Information is not available in the form requested. However, from information obtained in a sample survey in December 1982 it is estimated that there were then about 3,000 supplementary benefit recipients who were also receiving a Government training allowance. It is not known how many supplementary benefit recipients are on youth training scheme courses but there will be relatively few because in most cases the YTS training allowance exceeds the supplementary benefit entitlement of a 16 or 17-year-old.
