HC Deb 09 May 1984 vol 59 c396W
Mr.Donald Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will give the figures for notified redundancies under section 100 of the Employment Protection Act 1975 in Scotland for the months of January and February 1983 and for March and April 1984.

Mr.Gummer

The number of proposed redundancies in Scotland notified to my Department under section 100 of the Employment Protection Act 1975 in the months specified is as follows:

Establishments Employees
1983
January 119 9,722
February 126 7,034
1984
March 84 3,639
April 67 3,772

These figures are for redundancies involving 10 or more employees.

Some notified redundancies do not in fact take place because of changes in circumstances during the advance warning period: there is no statutory requirement to notify subsequent withdrawals.
