HC Deb 09 May 1984 vol 59 cc400-1W
Mr. Yeo

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many non-contributory invalidity pension recipients do not qualify for mobility allowance and attendance allowance.

Mr. Tony Newton

No figures are available for mobility allowance, but it is estimated that around 25 per cent. of the 145,000 receiving non-contributory invalidity pension also receive attendance allowance.

Mr. Yeo

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many of the 50,000 women who are presently entitled to housewives' non-contributory invalidity pension do not qualify for mobility allowance or attendance allowance.

Mr. Newton

Precise figures are not available but we estimate about a half.

Mr.Yeo

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many of the 240,000 married women presently excluded from claiming housewives' noncontributory invalidity pension will be able to claim the new severe disablement allowance without having to pass the 80 per cent. disablement test as they will benefit from the passporting arrangements he has announced.

Mr.Newton

Precise figures are not available hut, based on the estimated proportion of those receiving housewives non-contributory invalidity pension who also receive attendance allowance or mobility allowance, it is estimated that about a half of the 20,000 married women expected to newly qualify for severe disablement allowance once the benefit is fully phased in will be able to do so by virtue of the passporting arrangements.
