HC Deb 08 May 1984 vol 59 c303W
Mr. Grylls

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many prosecutions have been instigated, and how many have succeeded, against users of non-approved cordless telephones; and what was the cost of these investigations and prosecutions to public funds.

Mr. Butcher

In 1983 four people were prosecuted under the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1949 for using non-approved cordless telephones; three were convicted. The cost of the investigations cannot be identified separately. Legal costs amounted to £379, of which the defendants were ordered to pay £225.
