§ Mrs. ChalkerResponsibility for complying with the requirements to promote road safety, imposed by section 8 of the Road Traffic Act 1974, rests with individual local authorities. I have no power to intervene. Nevertheless, the Department maintains close links with the authorities in this work and I have no evidence to suggest that the statutory obligation is not generally being fulfilled.
