§ Mr. Gordon Brownasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will publish each individual ruling or item of advice issued by the Chief Adjudication Officer to cover payments to, or withholding of payment from, the families of miners engaged in industrial action.
§ Dr. BoysonAs I explained in my reply to the hon. Member on 30 April at column61 general guidance on the treatment of claims from people involved in a trade dispute is contained in the S manual. The only other item of written guidance relating to the treatment of claims in the current miners' dispute has been a short note of supplementary guidance issued by the office of the Chief Adjudication Officer some weeks ago; I have arranged for a copy of this note to be placed in the Library. Other advice to local offices has been oral, mainly in response to specific urgent telephone queries about individual cases.I have asked the Chief Adjudication Officer to let me have details of any advice given in this way which is of general application and I shall write to the hon. Member and place a copy of the letter in the Library of the House.
