HC Deb 08 May 1984 vol 59 c326W
Mr. Allen McKay

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is his intention regarding the control and funding of the archaeological units of the metropolitan counties should the county councils be abolished.

Mr. Macfarlane

The metropolitan districts will need to make any necessary arrangements to undertake this work. The Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission will continue to provide financial support for individual archaeological projects in these areas.
