HC Deb 08 May 1984 vol 59 c331W
Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how much his Department has spent on advertising in national and local newspapers, on television and in other printed journals in each of the past five years; and what is budgeted in the current financial year for such advertising.

Mr. Jopling

My Department has spent the following sums in the years in question on advertising and paid publicity.

£
1979–80 90,694
1980–81 95,839
1981–82 63,303
1982–83 96,730
1983–84 103,021

In 1982–83 and 1983–84 the figures included the cost of advertising and paid publicity placed on our behalf by the Central Office of Information as part of our rabies awareness campaign. The figure budgeted for 1984–85 is approximately the same as that for the current year but allowing for inflation. An exact figure could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.
