Mr. D. E. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) how many pre-school children are at present in day nurseries; and what percentage this is of the total number of pre-school children; (2) what is the average number of children per nursery and what is the average staff to child ratio in (a) day nurseries and(b) public sector work place nurseries.
