HC Deb 04 May 1984 vol 59 c258W
Mr. Spearing

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement on the implementation of his proposals for the future of (a) the Thames barrier and associated flood defences, (b) inland drainage and flood prevention and (c) recreation and amenity on the Thames in central London after the planned dissolution of the Greater London council.

Mr. Jopling

As is mentioned in the White Paper "Streamlining the Cities" (Cmnd. 9063) it is proposed that the Greater London council's responsibilities in respect of land drainage and flood prevention (including responsibility for the Thames barrier and its associated flood defences) should be assumed by the Thames water authority. It is proposed that responsibility for recreation and amenity on the Thames should remain with the Thames water authority.
