HC Deb 04 May 1984 vol 59 c263W
Mr. Batiste

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he has any plans to introduce legislation to give to business tenants the same statutory right to know the name and address of their landlord as is provided for residential tenants under sections 121 and 122 of the Housing Act 1974; and if he will make a statement.

Sir George Young

I have no plans to introduce legislation to give to business tenants the same statutory right to know the name and address of their landlord as is provided for residential tenants under sections 121 and 122 of the Housing Act 1974. Section 40(2) of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954 enables most business tenants, if their tenancy is for more than one year, to require their immediate landlord, or any superior landlord, to give information about his interest in the property. A notice requiring this information cannot be served more than two years before the end of the tenant's tenancy.
