HC Deb 04 May 1984 vol 59 c258W
Mr. Colvin

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is his estimate of the requirement for intervention storage for grain for the 1984 harvest; and if he is satisfied that adequate storage exists.

Mr. MacGregor

No estimate can be made at this stage of the need for intervention storage for cereals in the 1984–85 season, which will be influenced by the size of the harvest, the level of home market and export demand and market prices. The intervention board will take out contracts for storage in the next few months to meet early season demand and will seek additional storage thereafter as demand occurs.
