HC Deb 03 May 1984 vol 59 c232W
Mr. Durant

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many widows are entirely dependent upon their state pensions as their only source of income.

Dr. Boyson

[pursuant to his reply, 30 April 1984, c. 51–52]: A precise figure is not available, but from an analysis of the 1981 family expenditure survey it is estimated that in 1981 there were fewer than 20,000 widows who were entirely dependent upon widow's pension, widowed mother's allowance or widow's allowance as their only source of income.
