HC Deb 03 May 1984 vol 59 c216W
Mr. Janner

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many unfair dismissal claims were made during each of the years since the Industrial Relations Act 1971 came into effect; how many, and what percentage, of such claims were successful; and how many, and what percentage, failed during each such year.

Mr. Gummer

The information requested is shown in the following table:

equality of opportunity is being achieved. While asking employers to consider keeping ethnic records, the code recognises that the need for detailed information and the methods of collecting it will vary according to the circumstances of individual establishments. This flexibility is emphasised by my Department's Race Relations Employment Advisory Service in its regular contacts with employers.

The code's recommendations on positive action do not go beyond the existing provisions for encouragement and training contained in the Race Relations Act 1976.
