HC Deb 03 May 1984 vol 59 cc217-8W
Mr. Meacher

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what has been the estimated average annual pay increase for each year since 1979 of (a) unskilled manual workers, (b) semi-skilled manual workers, (c) skilled manual workers, (d) clerical and lower-grade white-collar workers, (e) lower managerial and professional workers and (f) higher managerial and professional workers.

Mr. Alan Clark

Annual increases in average earnings for the occupation groups for which the Department has information are published in tables 8 and 9 in part A and tables 88 to 91 in part C of the reports of the new earnings survey for 1980, 1981, 1982 and 1983. Comprehensive data on manual employees' earnings by level of skill are not available, but information for certain industries is published inEmployment Gazette, October 1980, pages 1081–88, and March 1983, pages 107–109.
