HC Deb 03 May 1984 vol 59 c199W
Q52. Mr. John Browne

asked the Prime Minister if Her Majesty's Government will make proposals for amendments to the Geneva convention in so far as it relates to the sinking of warships on the high seas during a state of war.

The Prime Minister

I assume my hon. Friend is referring to the 1958 Geneva convention on the high seas. Nothing in that convention affects the right of self defence preserved in article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations.
