Mr. Wrigglesworth

asked the Secretary of Trade and Industry when he expects the Director General of Telecommunications to take up his duties.

Mr. Tebbit

I expect the Director General to have taken up his duties by the time that the regulatory arrangements under the Telecommunications Act 1984 come into force.

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry when he plans to announce the appointment of a Director General of Telecommunications.

Mr. Tebbit

I expect to announce this appointment shortly.
