NB Negative values include decommitments from earlier years

five years (a) the grants made under the regional selective assistance scheme, under section 7 of the Industrial Development Act 1982, (b) the corresponding aid received by the Government from the European regional development fund, and (c) the separate support to regional bodies from the European regional development fund in respect of infrastructure projects.

Mr. Trippier

Details of assistance which has been made available to industry in each region under section 7 of the Industrial Development Act 1982 in each of the last five years is listed in the first table which follows.

I regret that it is not posssible, except at disproportionate cost, (i) to identify the aid received by the Government from the European regional development fund which corresponds to regional selective assistance as opposed to regional development grant or (ii) to show the separate support specifically for regional bodies in respect of infrastructure projects.

The second table indicates the amounts committed from the fund for both industrial and infrastructure projects. In the case of industrial projects, the fund may have contributed, in some instances, to projects receiving regional development grant as well as regional selective assistance from the Government.

Lists of all projects (industrial and infrastructure) in receipt of ERDF aid are published from time to time in British Business. The most recent issue featuring such a list was dated 20 January 1984.

Details of assistance which has been made available to industry in each region under section 7 of the Industrial Development Act 1982 in each of the last five years is as follows:
