§ Sir David Priceasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what steps he is taking to encourage the development and manufacture of optic fibres within the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. ButcherThe Department launched the fibre optics and optoelectronics scheme in 1981 to build on the United Kingdom's research and development base in optical fibres. Take-up of funds by optical fibre makers has been rapid and currently £43 million has been committed or earmarked. All major fibre companies are receiving support.
