HC Deb 02 May 1984 vol 59 c182W
Mr. Greenway

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he has any plans to recommend the updating of microcomputers in use in schools; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Trippier

The primary responsibility for the provision of computers in schools — including any upgrading—rests with local education authorities.

My Department has, however, already extended its "Micros in Schools" scheme to provide 50 per cent. grant for secondary schools wishing to upgrade the computer supplied under the original scheme and acquire ancillary equipment. The relevant scheme ends on 30 June this year. The Department has not yet come to any decisions about any possible further schemes of equipment support.
