asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many local enterprise industries are in existence; and how many are in the process of being set up.

Mr. Trippier

As at April 1984, there are 208 local enterprise agencies in existence in the United Kingdom, including all those organisations which have been approved as local enterprise agencies under section 48 of the Finance Act 1982 before starting to operate, and over 40 in the process of being set up.
