Friend the Secretary of State for Wales and I have now published a detailed "Heather and Grass Burning Code" which is available free of charge from the Ministry's local offices in England and in Wales from local offices of the Welsh Office Agriculture Department. A summary leaflet is also available: this provides a practical guide to those carrying144W out burning in the field and will be issued with every application for a heather and grass burning licence. I am sure that both the code and the leaflet will prove a valuable source of advice and guidance for those involved in burning operations which, if properly carried out, can be of benefit to both agriculture and conservation.
