HC Deb 02 May 1984 vol 59 c144W
Mr. Andrew F. Bennett

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the chief constable of Thames Valley police as to the number of occasions and the periods of time involved when the police have imposed exceptional parking restrictions on that part of the road near Greenham common adjacent to the main water supply used by the women protestors.

Mr. Hurd

The chief constable tells me that since 4 April roadworks to improve the junction of the A339 and the access road to the main gate of RAF Greenham Common have been in progress. The roadworks are at a bend in the road, on the brow of a hill. In the interests of road safety, the police have prohibited vehicles from waiting or parking on 300 metres of the south side of the A339 opposite to the roadworks. A water standpipe is within the area of the prohibition, which will continue until the roadworks are completed.
