HC Deb 02 May 1984 vol 59 c148W
Mr. Wheeler

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he has completed his consultations about the means of escape from fire in houses in multiple occupation; what is the analysis of the replies he has received; how many of these favour extending the scope of the relevant order; what action he proposes to take; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Gow

The consultations with outside organisations have been completed. The replies considered whether to extend the existing order, the likely effects, the criteria to be adopted and the resource implications. Of those who had comments of substance, seven expressed themselves in favour of extending the scope of the existing order although in most cases this was on the understanding that additional resources could be made available to local authorities. I will make a further statement as soon as possible.
