HC Deb 01 May 1984 vol 59 c93W
38. Mr. Nicholls

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he is satisfied with the employment prospects of those disabled people who have undertaken rehabilitation courses.

Mr. Alan Clark

The Government are concerned to ensure that the resources available to promote the employment of disabled people, including those devoted to employment rehabilitation courses, are used as effectively as possible in improving employment prospects for these people.

About 11,000 disabled people a year attend employment rehabilitation centres run by the Manpower Services Commission. Follow-up inquiries show that about 16 per cent. of those people are in jobs three months after their employment rehabilitation course. I understand that at its last meeting the commission approved a number of developments designed to improve the resettlement rate.
