Mr. Cohen

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what number of requests his Department has received from relatives, currently in China, of Vietnamese refugees now settled in the United Kingdom, to be able to come to the United Kingdom; and how many he has approved to enter.

Mr. Waddington

Between 1 January 1982 and 29 February 1984 consideration was given to applications made on behalf of 2,038 relatives in China wishing to join Vietnamese refugees settled in the United Kingdom. Applications in respect of 205 of those relatives have been granted. Information for earlier periods is not readily available.
