HC Deb 30 March 1984 vol 57 cc334-5W
Mr. Peter Robinson

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what action is being taken to reduce delays in dealing with applications for mobility and attendance allowance in Northern Ireland; what is the average time taken to process claims; and how this compares with 1980.

Mr. Chris Patten

The Department of Health and Social Services keep the procedures for dealing with applications under review with the aim of reducing the time taken and is currently developing a system of performance indicators.

The average times between the receipt of applications and determination of title, calculated from recent samples, are 6.7 weeks and 9.7 weeks for mobility allowance and attendance allowance respectively; comparable information for 1980 is not available.
