HC Deb 30 March 1984 vol 57 c299W
Mrs. Rumbold

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how much his Department is spending on publicity to advertise the consequences for ratepayers of the proposed abolition of the Inner London education authority.

Mr. Dunn

It is the practice not to use the paid media to publicise a Government proposal which depends on legislation until that legislation has been given parliamentary approval, and then of course only in so far as it is judged necessary. In the meantime, Ministers are taking steps to see that the Government's case for replacing the ILEA with a new education authority for inner London is properly and factually presented within the means conventionally available.
