HC Deb 30 March 1984 vol 57 cc302-3W
Mr. Chris Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what is his latest estimate of the number of (a) households owning their home with a building society mortgage, (b) households owning their home with a mortgage from another source, (c) households owning their home outright and (d) all households in Wales.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

Of 1,021,000 households in Wales enumerated by the 1981 census, I estimate that 211,000 owned their home with a building society mortgage, 75,000 owned their home with a mortgage from another source and 347,000 owned their home outright.
