HC Deb 29 March 1984 vol 57 cc268-9W
28. Mr. McQuarrie

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food when he expects the new European Economic Community log books for skippers of United Kingdom trawlers will be introduced.

Mr. MacGregor

We have constantly been pressing the European Commission on this matter. A longer delay than we would have liked has been caused by the Community procedures, for example, for tenders for printing, and by technical matters including translation.

We now hope that they will come into force before the end of this summer. The closing date for tenders for printing the log books was 26 March; after printing and issue to member states a period of 90 days is allowed in the regulation (2807/83) for distribution to and briefing of fishermen before the log book system is introduced.
