HC Deb 29 March 1984 vol 57 c272W
Mr. Kennedy

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland, pursuant to his answer of 22 March, Official Report, column 548, what the breakdown of costs is for (a) land, (b) roads and (c) river banking of the £200,000 estimated total cost of work following the flooding of the River Conon.

Mr. John MacKay

The estimated costs allow for the material which has been deposited on land by the flooding to be used in river banking and on that basis the break down of estimates is approximately £175,000 for river channels and floodbanks and the removal of material from the fields and £25,000 for farm roads and bridges.

Mr. Kennedy

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland, pursuant to his answer of 22 March, Official Report, c. 548, how the figure of £200,000 was calculated as representing the approximate estimated costs of flood damage resulting from the flooding of the River Conon in Ross-shire.

Mr. John MacKay

The estimate of approximately £200,000 was compiled on the basis of a detailed visual inspection of the damage and takes account of the current prices of machinery and materials in the area.
