HC Deb 29 March 1984 vol 57 c293W
Mr. Steen

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many disposal programmes have been set up by the public bodies to sell surplus land, as a result of Government measures to reduce public expenditure.

Mr. Macfarlane

Most national public bodies which own land and many local authorities have set up disposal programmes, whether in response to restraints on public expenditure or for other reasons.

Mr. Steen

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will set out in tabular form for each owner of derelict or vacant public land recorded on the land registers (a) the number of acres, their location and consequent use, disposed of or brought into use since the inception of the registers and (b) the number of acres, their location and former use added to the register since the introduction.

Mr. Macfarlane

Information on the acreage of land holdings by classes of public owner, as assembled to 1 January 1984 from the introduction of the first registers in 1981, and of land disposed of or brought into use was given in reply to my hon. Friend's question on 21 March, at columns473.74.

Individual register entries give the location of sites, their former use and any current use but this information is not available centrally. Information on the use made of land following removal from the register is not generally available.
