HC Deb 29 March 1984 vol 57 c286W
33. Mr. Dalyell

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on the meeting between Lord Belstead and the Norfolk Broads authority on Wednesday 14 March on the preservation of Halvergate marshes as a wet land.

Mr. Waldegrave

Lord Belstead accompanied me when I met representatives of the Broads authority on 14 March. We agreed to explore possible ways and means of providing additional help to Halvergate farmers to encourage continuation of existing farming methods and to examine the possibility of increased financial assistance to the Broads authority over the next two to three years. The authority agreed to endeavour to negotiate short-term management agreements to conserve the grazing marshes pending the outcome of these studies.
