HC Deb 29 March 1984 vol 57 cc281-2W
Mrs. Dunwoody

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what item of service fee is payable to doctors who give contraceptive advice and help; and whether this fee is payable regardless of whether or not supplies are prescribed or contraceptive devices fitted.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

There are two levels of fee that general medical practitioners may claim for the provision of contraceptive services over the course of 12 months. The ordinary fee is payable when the doctor accepts a patient, gives advice and conducts any necessary examination, where appropriate prescribes contraceptive drugs or appliances and provides any follow-up care. The intrauterine device fee is payable to doctors who fit such devices and provide any necessary after-care.
