asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the regional distribution of special care baby units.

Mr. John Patten

[pursuant to his reply, 8 March 1984, c. 680]: The latest available information is given in the table. A special care baby unit is defined as one under the control of a consultant paediatrician and with staff especially allocated to it.
