asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many of his Department's staff were concerned exclusively with social security fraud over the past five years, respectively; and what was the cost of their employment.

  • 1979—37 Department of Health and Social Services staff at a cost of £382,000
  • 1980—55 Department of Health and Social Services staff at a cost of £587,000
  • 1981—60 Department of Health and Social Services staff at a cost of £868,000
  • 1982—63 Department of Health and Social Services staff at a cost of £978,000
