35. Mr. Beaumont-Dark

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what is his Department's forecast for investment in industry in the coming year.

Mr. Butcher

The latest investment intentions survey carried out by my Department indicates that in 1984 investment in manufacturing industry (revised definition*), including leased assets, is likely to be around £5.66 billion at 1980 prices—about 9 per cent. higher than in 1983. *Divisions 2–4 Standard Industrial Classification Revised 1980.
