§ Mr. Soamesasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will propose a legal definition of a Falkland Islander.
§ Mr. WhitneyThere is no legal definition of a Falkland Islander. The nearest equivalent is the definition of a "permanent resident" contained in the Falkland Islands Immigration Ordinance 1965, as amended. This definition comprises—
- (a) persons born in the Colony or Dependencies, or of parents who at the time of their birth were ordinarily resident there, or
- (b) a person ordinarily resident in the Colony or Dependencies and who has been so resident there for 7 years and since
191 completion of such residence, has not been ordinarily resident for a continuous period of 7 years or more in any other country, or - (c) a dependent of a person referred to in (a) or (b) or
- (d) a person who has obtained the status of British subject by reason of a grant by the Governor of a certificate of naturalisation.
