asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what is the current situation in relation to the negotiations on the access of clothing and textile products to the United Kingdom from the People's Republic of China; and if he will make a statement.

Negotiations about the renewal of the present agreement are currently taking place in Peking between the Community and the Chinese Government. The discussions are expected to last until the end of the week.
