HC Deb 28 March 1984 vol 57 c228W
Mr. Skeet

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (1) whether he is satisfied that Aldicarb (2 methyl-2 (methylthio) propionaldehyde-O-(methylcarbamoyl) oxime) a pesticide imported from North America, does not constitute a threat to game and wild life;

(2) whether the pesticide Aldicarb has a cleared formulation acceptable to the pesticides safety precautions scheme.

Mrs. Fenner

I assume my hon. Friend has in mind recent reports about the import of a USA formulation containing 15 per cent. aldicarb active ingredient. The Health and Safety Executive has recently served prohibition notices on the importer and distributor concerned, under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, prohibiting the supply of this product for use at work; and my Department has asked the importer to provide all the relevant data to enable any potential risks, including those to game and wildlife, to be assessed under the pesticides safety precautions scheme. Two different formulations were screened and cleared under the scheme for commercial use in 1974 and 1978 respectively.
