How much is currently spent on the youth service by local government in London, and by how much this is likely to be cut under the rate-capping proposals.
§ The Earl of SwintonOn the basis of local authorities' budget as returned to the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA), it is estimated that £32 million at November 1982 prices will be spent on the youth service by ILEA and the outer London boroughs in 1983–84. Some expenditure on youth provision is also undertaken by the Greater London Council. It is not possible to say what would happen to the level of this expenditure as a result of the proposals in the Rates Bill now before Parliament. Those authorities selected for rate-capping would continue to be able to decide their priorities in the light of the resources available to them.
