HL Deb 27 March 1984 vol 450 c223WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Which department of state is currently responsible for monitoring Soviet maritime policy as a whole, including naval affairs, shipping, ship-building, fishing, oceanography, maritime law (both domestic and international).

Lord Lucas of Chilworth

The Department of Transport has the lead role in co-ordinating Government policy on maritime affairs. Other government departments also consider Soviet maritime policies as these policies affect the interests of the particular government department concerned.
