HC Deb 27 March 1984 vol 57 c113W
Mr. Eadie

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what is the estimate of nuclear power generating capacity brought on stream, in coal equivalent, in 1983; and what similar new capacity, in coal equivalent, is estimated for 1984.

Mr. Giles Shaw

I am advised by the CEGB that nuclear generating capacity brought on stream in 1983 had a designed output capacity of 600 MW and it is estimated that a further 3100 MW will be brought on stream in 1984.

Actual capacity brought on stream in 1984 will be determined in the light of operating experience. It is not meaningful to consider these capacities in terms of estimated coal equavalent during plant commissioning and early operation.

Matters concerning electricity generation in Scotland are the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland.
