HC Deb 27 March 1984 vol 57 cc114-5W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Wales why he has decided to privatise two new dialysis units in Wales; when he expects these to be in operation; what is the estimated cost of the equipment and management of the units to be; and what patients will be charged for treatment.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

We have not yet decided which organisation will operate the pilot subsidiary renal units which are expected to become operational in 1985. Equipment and management costs are in part dependent upon that decision but also upon the number of patients who can be clinically identified as potential beneficiaries of the facilities provided at the units. Treatment will be provided under the NHS and patients will not be charged for treatment.
